In the spirit of training for dogs, it goes on all the time,  in all kinds of relationships.  Not just you and your dog. How any relationship developed is a result of certain processes that are repeated over time. If your boyfriend or girlfriend always makes a big deal about it when you dress up then you feel more encouraged to dress up. And likewise, if they don't ever give you a compliment when you dress up, then you eventaully loose your zest for dressing up for them.
